About Us

Building Bright Futures Through Compassionate Care

ABEBICARE INC’s program is designed to provide 24/7 “Solution focused trauma informed and relationship based care” for children /youth (0-18 years), that are in need of a secure and safe space to live and flourish.

Our warm, caring and inviting environment allows every child/youth in care to develop trust, while the safe space encourages them to explore, apply themselves, and integrate into their community. Apart from building trust, through a trusting caring consistent relationship with an adult staff, we also strive to identify the strengths and unique abilities of every Child /Youth that comes into our care, assist them in their journey to mental stability, promote healthy living, emotional wellness, develop good self esteem, improve problem-solving/ inter-personal skills, etc.

Our Programs

For The Ones In Need

As a licenced group home,, we provide care to children 0-18 years (including sibling groups, those with disabilities, medically fragile, special needs – FASD, ODD, ADHD, Mental Health Clients, etc), as well as those to be transitioned to adult services. However, some youth may be allowed at the group home past their 18th birthday, in order to accommodate their transition, or the completion of schooling / Adult Services or transition to SIL (Senior Independent Living – if permission is given, and the adult child is not a risk to other children in the program). Permission of case workers and licensing will be obtained for this.

Our potential clients include those struggling with or trying to overcome mental health concerns, emotional or psychological trauma; those at risk of developing, or have developed “maladaptive behaviours” (i.e. situations that can potentially inhibit one’s ability to adjust, adapt, and cope healthily to new changes, or even the basic every day demands or stresses of life); those with conditions brought on after a major life change, illness, challenges, habits picked up at an early age, a trauma /post traumatic event, etc.  Our program also caters for those unable to reside in their family environment due to safety concerns, health, and emotional issues.

Our Programs

Comprehensive Support for Children and Youth

The risk profile of the child/youth we take care of are:

Low/Medium risk trauma impacted behaviours, Medically Fragile child/youth, Sibling groups, Addictions, Pregnant Teens, Stabilization Group Care, Parented Group Care, Pre SIL/ SIL, etc.

An exceptional part of our program is the ability to provide every child/youth placed in our care with easy and prompt access (including quick referrals) to a network of practitioners and specialist (in various fields of medicine), who provide comprehensive healthcare services for simple, chronic, and complex medical issues and diseases like asthma, diabetes, routine annual /placement check-up, mental health and wellness (including Child/Adolescent mental health care service), addiction care, ADHD, etc.; through the Alberta Primary Care Network (PCN). Upon admission into care, the program will initiate a medical assessment for each child, followed by a mental health assessment by a mental health practitioner. Followed by a behaviour specialist assessment. Based on the outcome of these assessments (and if needed) we would create a multi disciplinary team (in collaboration with the case worker) to implement the recommendations of the practitioners. All of this is put into the service plan, and the child /youth care workers will also integrate and operationalize the care plan on to the floor.

After an initial behavioural consultation with the case worker, every Child/ Youth coming into our care receives a customized individualised “care plan”, specially put together to start to address their trauma needs within 30 days of admission. ABEBICARE INC is well equipped to offer every Child/ Youth in our care with an adult relationship that promotes:

  • A safe space to blossom and flourish.
  • Assistance in developing mental stability, and emotional wellness;
  • Opportunity to focus on their individual strength (i.e. skills, talents, and abilities), and to develop self empowerment.
  • Means of staying in touch with “indigenous culture” through our programs
  • Access to uninterrupted education/ vocational training of choice (e.g. regular school, online school, outreach school, work programs, etc.) Staff would provide tutoring if needed.
  • Tools to develop essential personal skills (i.e. sense of responsibility, make right choices, use of common sense), social/problem-solving skills, etc.; all through TCI trauma Informed care Life Space Interviews.
  • Support for developing positive self-esteem as an essential tool for a healthy and successful lifestyle (even after leaving our care) through a strength based, Trauma informed Care (TIC) approach with a positive unconditional interaction of the therapeutic milieu (childcare workers interaction). This creates a relationship with an adult that is predictable and reconstructs trust with a significant adult for the child.
  • Access to opportunities and community inclusion (i.e. as a way of connecting with others); and as a helpful tool to get them back on their feet upon leaving our care.
  • 24 hours access to on call services to the Manager of the Agency and Crisis Support on call
Where required, we also promote children reuniting/having a forever relationship with their biological family if possible.
  • We are committed to providing long term and Sibling Group Care.
